Coexistence Beyond Ethnicity: Now and Future of the former
Yugoslavia
Annual Symposium in Tokyo, Japan, on 24th, November,
2006
Yoyogi, Tokyo, 13th, Oct. --- Japanese college students will hold a symposium titled 'Coexistence Beyond Ethnicity: Now and Future of the former Yugoslavia' at National Olympics Memorial Youth Center in Tokyo on 24th, November. Experts on the former Yugoslavia, Serb-Croatian translator and Japanese university students will discuss the prospect for the region. The symposium is free and open to public.
The symposium will take place in cooperation with Mitsui Sumitomo Smile Heart Club (SMBC: Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation), ADRA Japan, JEN, Sarajevo Football Club, JNIV and Bunkyo Volunteers.Charity shops will also open, and the profit from the sales will be used for people in the former Yugoslavia through humanitarian projects by individual organisations.
The symposium is mainly organised by Japanese college students who experienced volunteer work in the Balkans. They have been making efforts to encourage people in the region who are getting forgotten in the international community. SMBC, Professor Shiba (Tokyo University), Mr. Kawahara (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and other Japanese humanitarian organisations cooperate with the students' social action.
