The Balkan Party in Tokyo,
Japan |
We held an informal party titled the
Balkan Party in Tokyo. Serbian students, experts in the Balkans
and those who are interested in the region gathered.
The party aimed at information
exchange and at providing people with opportunities to understand
the Balkans. Through informal chatting and games, the participants
enjoyed the party.
Post cards with pictures drawn
by children in the Balkans were sold, and the profit will be used
for humanitarian projects in the region.
We will organise not only formal
symposiumses but also this sort of informal events so that more people
can feel free to join and have opportunities to understand the
former Yugoslavia. |

Coexistence Beyond Ethnicity: Now and Future of the
former Yugoslavia
Annual Symposium in Tokyo, Japan

We held an annual symposium titled
Coexistence Beyond Ethnicity: Now and Future of the former
Yugoslavia at National Olympics Memorial Youth Center in Tokyo,
Japan. The symposium took place in cooperation with Mitsui Sumitomo
Smile Heart Club (Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation) and other
Japanese humanitarian organisations operating in the former
Yugoslavia.
In the symposium full of nearly 140
audiences, Professor Shiba (Tokyo University), Mr. Kawahara
(Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Ms. Aruma Okajima
(Serb-Croatian translator) and Mr.Tanabe (Bunkyo Volunteers)
discussed the prospect for the former Yugoslavia.
Japanese humanitarian organisations (ADRA
Japan, JEN, Sarajevo Football Club, JNIV and Bunkyo
Volunteers) made presentations about their acitivities in the
region.
Charity events also took place, and the
profits from the sales will be used for people in the former
Yugoslavia through humanitarina projects by individual
organisations. |

Delicious meals can bridge people from
different backgrounds
BBQ Party in
Showajima Park in Tokyo, Japan |
We organised an informal BBQ party in
Showajima Park in Tokyo, Japan. Japanese, Croatian and Serbian
pariticpants gathered in the party. All the participants enjoyed
talking, eating and drinking.
In the party, Croatian and Serbian
participants shaked hands with each other, and started talking
friendly. They said to Taeko Kosaka, Represenative of our
organisation, ' We don't care about if our friends are Croatian or
Serbian. We can be friends even if we go back to our
countries.'
Informal parties and delicious meals are
more effective for interpersonal communications and for
promoting friendships.
Delicious meals can bridge people
from different backgrounds. |

Ethnic Conflict Changed the World: True
Stories in the former Yugoslavia
Annual

We held an annual sympoisum
titled Ethnic Conflict Changed the World: True Stories in the
former Yugoslavia in Tokyo, Japan. The symposium took place in
cooperation with Mitsui Sumitomo Smile Heart Club (Sumitomo Mitsui
Banking Corporation), Tsuda Jukukai and other Japanese humanitarian
organisations operating in the former Yugoslavia.
In the symposium full of more than 100
audiences, humanitarian workers of Japanese non-governmental
organisations (NGOs) talked on their experiences during the conflict
in the former Yugoslavia. Our staff members who experienced
volunteer programmes there also had presentation about their
activities and experiences.
Japanese NGOs, such as ADRA Japan, JEN,
Sarajevo Football Club and JNIV, also had presentations about
their projects in the former Yugoslavia. Charity events also tool
place, and the profits from the sales will be used for people in
the region through humanitarina projects by individual
organisations. |

Do you remember Yougoslavia?
Special Lecture
at Rikkyo University in Tokyo, Japan

Our organisation had a special
lecture on Yougoslavia and a photo exhibition at Rikkyo
University in Tokyo, Japan, in cooperation with Rikkyo International
Cooperation Circle (RICC), a student volunteer organisation at
the University.
The special lecture was aimed at
promoting the understanding about the former Yougoslavia and calling
for Japanese volunteers in cultural programmes in the
Balkans.After the lecture, the Bosnian tea
was served to the audiences during question and answer
time. |

Talks on Volunteer Activities in the
Balkans
Guest Speaking at Gakushuin University
in Tokyo, Japan |
Our staff members had a presentation about
volunteer activities in the Balkans as guest speakers at Gakushuin
University in Tokyo, Japan, in cooperation with Professor Tatsuhiko
Kawashimao of the University's Faculty of Economy.
As an extra session of Professor Kawashima's
lecture, NGOs and Volunteer Activities, our staff members
had presentations about their experiences in the Balkans. After the
presentations, the Bosnian tea was served to the audiences
during question and answer time. |
